Italian neurosurgeon completes head transplant on cadaver, living human next target

Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero told reporters at a press conference in Vienna on Friday that he has completed the world’s first transplant of a human head from one cadaver to another.

He accomplished his arguably gruesome operation by fusing the spine, nerves and blood vessels of the first subject with those of the second.

Canavero provided no evidence or details about his “successful” procedure, but he plans to now try it on a living human being paralyzed from the neck down, adding that it would be the next “imminent” step.

He says that “in the next few days” he will release a scientific paper detailing the procedure.
