Things between President Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson may have reached a new low as a yet-unrevealed plan developed by White House chief of staff John F. Kelly gets underway.
The likely candidate, according to anonymous sources for the New York Times, is CIA Director Mike Pompeo, and it may happen in a matter of weeks.
If that happens, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) could take Pompeo’s place at the head of the intelligence agency. He has apparently signaled his willingness to take the offer.
Both Pompeo and Cotton are fierce Trump supporters, while Tillerson has long had issues with the First Family, as seen with the recent Ivanka Trump India trip issue.
Even more senior staffers are expected to leave in the coming year, including National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn.
