Dow Jones breaches 24,000 for the first time, average briefly up by +387 points

This Thursday, the Dow Jones industrial average breached 24,000 for the first time, giving the index its biggest gain since March 2017.

The average was up by more than 387 points for a brief time.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index also had its biggest monthly gain since February this year, hitting 2,647.58 after climbing 0.8%, or 21.51 points.

The momentum behind the global economy and the imminent boost for the corporate tax code have been cited as plausible reasons for the prevalent optimism in the market.

Though there are still divisive opinions within the Republican Party that could see several changes to the tax reform bill before Trump signs on the dotted line, the overall sentiment is that it will be a major boost for businesses.

That optimism was reflected in Thursday’s positive movements of several indices, including Nasdaq and the Russell 2000.
