Democrats pile on Senator Al Franken, to resign after multiple calls to step down

Senator Al Franken will be stepping down on Thursday, a day after several of his colleagues in the Democratic Party collectively turned against him and called for his resignation over allegations of groping and other sexual misconduct.

More than 30 Democrat senators have called for Franken to resign, with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) opening the floodgates. Others followed suit, putting intense pressure on Franken to step down.

Franken’s office has insisted that they are yet to arrive at a decision, but one Democrat reportedly told Minnesota Public Radio that Franked would resign from office. The announcement is expected on Thursday.

Until recently, Franken, a former writer for “Saturday Night Live”, was touted as the dark horse nominee for the 2020 Presidential Election.

New allegations continue to surface against Franken.
