Tesla July Sales Declines by 60% in Norway. Service Woes to Blame?

Tesla’s July sales dropped by 60% in its third largest market, Norway. The electric car maker sold just 64 units this year compared to 160 units the company sold in July last year. But before we jump to conclusions we also need to look at the fact that Tesla’s sales in the first seven months increased by 63% this year compared to last year.

Between January 2018 and July 2018,  Tesla has sold 4,110 Model S and Model X, compared to 2,520 units the company sold during the same period last year. Read More


 

Tesla Shorts Reduce Position. Fat Trimming Says S3 Partners

After Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that he plans to take Tesla Private, the initial impression was Tesla Shorts would rush towards the exit creating a short stampede. One reason for that was Elon Musk didn’t just say he plans to take Tesla private but also added a $420 buyout price for his proposed transaction.

Major Tesla shareholders trimmed stakes last quarter: filings (Via Reuters)

Two major Tesla Inc shareholders cut their stakes in the electric automaker during the second quarter, before Chief Executive Elon Musk announced he would try to take the company private earlier this month.

T. Rowe Price Group Inc funds, once the No. 2 Tesla shareholder after Musk, cut their holdings by nearly a quarter to 11.9 million shares in the three months ended June 30, according to a filing on Tuesday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The disclosure comes days after Fidelity Investments, another top-10 shareholder, said in an earlier filing it cut its Tesla stake by 21 percent during the quarter. Read More


Should Tesla Be Worried about the IMF’s Lithium and Cobalt Supply Warning?

According to the IMF, there could be “potential cobalt and lithium scarcities that could slow the rollout of electric vehicles.” The International Monetary Fund did not give specific estimates on when this is likely to happen, but it’s not going to be too far into the future.

So, the problem here is two-fold. One is cobalt, which is primarily found in former Zaire, now the Republic of Congo. But a combination of political instability, stories of child labor and China being in control of most supply chains originating there has forced other battery makers, especially in South Korea and Japan, to explore other options. I wish everyone would really give a hard time to those analysts who kept saying that Tesla will not be able to sustain its production rate after the company reported that they have built 5,031 Model 3s in the last week of June.

Over 200 Orders Placed For Teslas In Russia (Via CleanTechnica)

About 236 orders were recently placed for Teslas in Russia, which would be about an 80% increase in the current fleet if they are all fulfilled. The total there now is approximately 300, even though there are no Tesla stores or charging stations. The orders were placed on the website of Svyaznoy, a company that is now working with the Moscow Tesla Club to import more Teslas. Read More
