Samsung is giving its Gear S2 smart watch users an early Christmas this year with a newly released Value Pack that’s been coming as an update since yesterday December 5.

The 133 MB update for TizenOS-powered Samsung Gear S2 wrist wearables sports some very cool features, such as Gear S3 watch faces, more apps, better native apps, automatic stop and resume tracking and new workout modes for S Health.

Samsung’s roll-out strategy for this second Value Pack update has a clear intent behind it – we’re not leaving Gear S2 users out in the cold this year. Of course, it could also act as a preview-like function for Gear S2 users to see what they can expect on Gear 3 before they upgrade.

Improved Twist Bezel functionality – Answer and reject calls, dismiss alerts and alarms

Messages – New features such as Handwriting Mode, more emoji and voice-input option

S Heath – More activities, automatic counting of reps, pause-resume feature, Pace Coaching, Stretching Guide

Widget support – New third-party widgets like Yelp, Uber and USA Today, new Samsung widgets like Multi-Contact, improved Weather widget, etc.

Safety – Enhanced location-tracking support and new Safety Partner feature

Plus – Access to more games and apps on the Galaxy Apps store than ever before

Obviously, Samsung wouldn’t want to disappoint Gear S3 users, so to provide that little bit of extra exclusivity, another bit of news has also hit – in partnership with Strap Studio and SLG Design, Samsung is offering a new range of wristbands that are compatible with both Gear S3 Frontier and Classic models. The bands start at $29 and go all the way up to $109 and are designed exclusively for Gear S3 devices.

The watch straps can be purchased from the companies’ websites, and Samsung is also making them available on its own website in Korea. Offline stores in Singapore, Hong Kong and Mexico will also get them later this month. Click on this link to preview the band.
