Nintendo has announced a new video game bundle for the Nintendo Switch console – the Splatoon 2 bundle – and it is Walmart-exclusive. The bundle includes the download code for the seafood-starring shooter, a theme case for the console and Joy-Con controllers in Neon Pink and Neon Green.
Splatoon 2 is a team-based shooter and the sequel to the 2015 Wii U title Splatoon. The game can accommodate up to eight players in online four-versus-four matches. The game was announced in January 2017 and was released worldwide on July 21, 2017.
Considering the big announcement, it is a fair guess that Nintendo will have given a surplus supply of the Splatoon 2 bundle to Walmart, the exclusive retailer. Still, given the previous experiences with Nintendo console and game availability, our advice is to get one as quickly as you can.
“Consumers in Japan and Europe have already had a strong response to Splatoon 2 bundles in their territories,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “This exclusive Walmart bundle gives people who have been waiting to buy a Nintendo Switch a great value and incentive to get splatting.”
The company has announced that the Splatoon 2 bundle will be available starting September 8 with the price tag of $379.99, but there is no mention of a preorder date.
The company also revealed some details about the next Splatfest contest, which will begin on September 1 and last until September 2. The theme of the competition is that the players will have to pick the superpower to fight with – flight or invisibility.
Splatoon 2 retains the original game’s cultural identity, with a few changes. It looks better, with bright colors, player characters and weapons, and clothing is far more detailed and noticeable on higher frame rates. There are a few new weapons added, and special moves make it even better.
The original Splatoon was more of an experiment that was focused on online play as the primary selling point. It is known as a multiplayer shooter with personality, and has cultivated a ravenous community of loyal fans. Splatoon 2 is more of an extension to Splatoon – basically, it picks from where the original left off.
