Deloitte recently announced its acquisition of cloud consulting firm Day1 Solutions, which will significantly strengthen Deloitte’s cloud computing capabilities. Deloitte will also be recruiting 3,000 engineers and opening three new cloud studios across the United States.

McLean, Virginia-based Day1 Solutions was founded in 2012, and offers a breadth of cloud services covering cloud consulting and implementation, and ongoing managed services. Apart from the breadth of the company’s expertise, their strength in working on Amazon Web Services platform must have played a huge factor in their being acquired.

“At our core, we start with Amazon Web Services (AWS) while other companies start with on-premise IT. We provide AWS cloud capabilities and augment AWS with other complimentary best-in-industry technology companies. It is through this focus on AWS and their vast technology ecosystem that our approach is set apart from everyone else.”Day1 Solutions

As cloud usage explodes around the world, Deloitte is pushing cloud computing deep into the accounting segment. Last year, Deloitte launched SolutionPrint for Cloud Financial Analytics, based on the Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service, and was named first Global Cloud Elite partner in the new Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) Cloud Program.

Deloitte has been steadily building its cloud strength over a period of time. The company already offers a wide range of cloud services, including cloud accounting, ERP, customer management and procurement. As one of the Big Four accounting firms in the world, the 172-year-old company has thousands of clients all over the world, and raked in $36.8 billion in revenues last year.

The announcement makes it clear that Deloitte is serious about cloud adoption, with plans to open three cloud studios across Orlando, New York, and Washington, D.C. that will lead Deloitte’s cloud innovation and development. Most of the new cloud hires will be working out of these studios, according to the company.
