Trust announces Rhodes Scholarship list of 32 students, including 10 African Americans

On Sunday, the Rhodes Trust announced its list of U.S. students comprising 32 men and women – 10 of whom are African Americans – for the Rhodes Scholarship to commence in the academic year 2018.

The Rhodes Scholarship includes an all-expenses-paid two- or three-year program to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford.

This year there were 866 applicants, endorsed by 299 universities and colleges.

Notable alumni awardees include ex-President of the United States Bill Clinton and current Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The Rhodes Scholarship was the first large-scale program of international postgraduate scholarships, and has inspired the institution of several such well-known programs for higher studies, including Fulbright, Marshall, Churchill and Kennedy.
