Doubts cast on US attendance at South Korea Winter Olympics

The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has cast a cloud over US attendance at next year’s Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Haley on Wednesday cited the rising tensions in the region and North Korea’s role in the situation “changing by the day”, and said that the US attending the February 2018 event was “an open question.”

The ambassador added that she believed the Trump administration would work to “find out the best way” to make sure US athletes are secure, should they attend the global event.

In related news, Russia this week was banned from attending the Winter Olympics 2018 after “systematic manipulation” of anti-doping rules.
