Walmart has no plans to accept Apple Pay, Says Walmart

Apple Pay is one of the best mobile payment services on the market. Apple has been slowly expanding its payment service to more markets in recent years in an attempt to attract more customers. Sources say that the Cupertino firm has been in talks with a wide range of banks and financial institutions to bring its payment service closer to customers.

Back in June, Apple launched its digital payment service to Norway following months of rumors and reports. With the release of Apple Pay, Norwegian customers are able to make payments using their iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch at supported contactless terminals across the country.

One of the best things when it comes to Apple Pay is that they won’t require specific Apple-enabled terminals. Apple is promising to bring Apple Pay to more countries later this year. Apart from expanding Apple Pay to international markets, Apple is also bringing it to more retailers in the US.

Earlier this week, Costco, one of the biggest retailers in the world, confirmed that it would accept Apple Pay at its warehouses in the US. The American firm also claims that the company has started installing a wide range of contactless terminals across the country. Apple will also be launching its payment service at pharmacy chain CVS and convenience store chain 7-Eleven in the US.

Apple is expecting to expand Apple Pay to more retailers in the US. Sources say that Apple is expecting to add Apple Pay support to Walmart. For some background, Walmart is the biggest retailer in the world that owns a chain of hypermarkets, grocery stores, and department stores.

Walmart is expanding its business to international markets like China, South Korea, the United Kingdom, or Germany. Walmart now dominates the retail market in the US, which gives Apple a reason to bring its payment service to the retail giant.

However, Walmart says that the company has no plan to accept Apple’s payment service. In reality, Walmart has its own payment service called Walmart Pay that allows customers to make payments at a wide range of Walmart-owned stores.

According to Walmart spokesperson, the company will continue to count on its own payment service. However, sources say that Apple will negotiate with the retail giant to add Apple Pay to its system in the future.

Walmart Pay is built directly into the Walmart app for iOS and Android. The app is completely free for download. Users can check their carts or add more money to the app to make purchases at Walmart’s stores. To use the Walmart app, open the app and then scan the QR code at the checkout.

Apple is expected to bring its payment service to more European markets later this year. Apple’s payment service was first introduced back in 2014 and was accepted by some markets at launch. Apple is now facing a lot of competition from the mobile payment market as Google Pay and Samsung Pay are contesting for the market ground.

Apple Pay is rumored to mark its steps in more Asian countries in the coming months. Let’s wait and see.
