iOS 10.2: Sneak Preview of iOS 10.2’s Best Features for iPhone and iPad

iOS 10.2 beta 5 released for developers and public beta testers

iOS 10.2 from Apple Inc. is nearly ready to roll out at the beginning of December. Here’s a sneak preview of some of the best features you can expect from the new OS version for your iPhone or iPad.

New TV App

Apple has already demo-ed the new TV App for iOS 10.2, but it will be available to all users as of early December when the update comes through. Right now it’s open to developers in beta mode, and you can get it if you’re on the Apple Beta Software Program. Essentially, it curates content and shows you what you might like to watch just the way the For You feature works on Apple Music.

Emergency SOS Feature

If you’re got the beta version, this will be activated by default, and the full version of iOS 10.2 will come with this very important functionality. What it does is to allow you to connect with emergency services in about 14 participating countries based on your location. Simply press the power button five times and it will start a countdown timer with three seconds on the clock, after which a call will be put through to a local emergency service. If you’ve set up emergency contacts on the Health App, those people will also get a notification that an emergency call has been initiated, along with your current location.

Preserve your Camera Settings

Ever been frustrated because you had to go in and tweak your camera settings each time? Fret no more, because this new feature has a Preserve Settings option that allows you to choose which mode, filter, etc. you want the camera to be on when you launch the app. It also works with Live Photos.

New Emoji

We’ve covered this in detail in an earlier article, which you can read here. There’s a whole bunch of new emoji available now that iOS 10.2 has Unicode 9 support, giving you access to about 72 new emoji. Chat app users will find this extremely useful, and there are also some new wallpaper themes that you might like.

Quick Response Messages Can Now be Resumed on Full Screen View

Ever lost a message mid-sentence when you switched from quick response to full-screen view? That bug has now been fixed, and you should be able to see it on the beta version. If you’re not registered to the beta testing program, don’t worry, because it’s on the new iOS 10.2 when it comes out early December.

New Message Filter – Celebration

The Sparkler animation is now available with the new Celebration message filter. Simple 3D-touch or long-press the arrow icon next to your message and you should be able to send a haptic feedback celebration message to make sure it gets read.

These are the top 7 features on iOS 10.2 that you will soon see when it’s rolled out in December. You can still sign up for the beta testing program on Apple’s website, but please note that beta versions typically come with a lot of bugs and other vulnerabilities so unless you’re okay with that, it may not be such a good idea.
