TSMC reportedly manufactures A12 chip for 2018 iPhone models

Apple iPhone is among the best phones on the market. The Cupertino company never stops improving its iPhone lineup in an attempt to offer a better and smoother experience. Last year, Apple announced three iPhone models, including iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

iPhone X is a premium phone that comes with a lot of new things like Face ID, a curved OLED display, Face ID, and more. Apple iPhone X was the best-selling phone in the first three months of the year. In Q1/2018, Apple shipped more than 16 million iPhone X units, beating out the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.

2018 iPhone models are expected to make their debut in September. Rumors regarding Apple’s next iPhone models have been out there for months. Most rumors claim that Apple will continue to launch three new iPhone models this year, including an iPhone X Plus to replace the iPhone X.

This year’s iPhone models are expected to come with a lot of new things like a much-improved Face ID, new powerful chipset, better Siri, and new display technology. Apple has been looking for suppliers of components used for its 2018 iPhone models.

Samsung Display is currently Apple’s biggest supplier of OLED displays for iPhone models. Last year, the South Korean firm secured a 4 billion contract to provide Apple with hundreds of millions of OLED panels.

In terms of chipset, sources say that TSMC, a Taiwanese manufacturer, will be responsible for producing A12 chip used for this year’s iPhone models. In reality, TSMC has been Apple’s long-time partner as the Taiwanese firm is fabricating processors for Apple’s devices like iPhone, or iPad.

Sources also claim that Apple and TSMC are planning to open up new manufacturing facilities to boost the production of A12 chip for 2018 iPhones. In reality, Samsung was once rumored to provide Apple with A-series chip. However, TSMC successfully secured a deal with Apple.

The A12 chip is promised to offer a much-improved performance when compared to the one found in the current iPhone models. The A12 chip allows Apple to develop AR apps and services for its products.
